This is the song that was our initial creative response to the COVID-19 pandemic and social crisis. As I started seeing the social safety nets fail our community, I fell into a bit of despair. I saw everyone I know who works the gig economy, suddenly without income. I saw everyone I know who is a performing artist suddenly find all their gigs, projects, and paid work just … evaporate. And while I, myself, was in a more stable position because of my teaching position, I was feeling the shock of these failures to our creative community. It made me realize we need to find new ways to work together to create better and more stable structures of support for all of our creative professionals. I hope the words speak to you. We hope you enjoy the music. Find a local independent artist you love and ask them how you can support their work. Do it today.
